Ryanair’s current personal item size is 40 x 30 x 20 cm. This has been in effect since September 4, 2025.
The old size of 40 x 25 x 20 cm was retired. Any source still listing 40 x 25 x 20 as the current limit is outdated.
The change represents a 33 percent volume increase (from 20 liters to 24 liters) at no extra cost. Ryanair installed new bag sizers at all 235 of its European airports to enforce the updated dimension.
Key rules:
- The bag must fit under the seat in front of you.
- Dimensions include handles, wheels, and external pockets.
- Exceeding the size by even 1 to 2 cm triggers the gate-fee.
