Where the deodorant goes depends on the type:
- Solid stick deodorant: Pack anywhere, no size limit. TSA does not treat solid sticks as liquids, so a full-size Old Spice or Dove stick is fine in the carry-on.
- Gel, spray, or roll-on deodorant: Must be 3.4 oz (100 ml) or smaller and go in the quart-sized clear liquids bag for screening.
- Larger gel or spray cans: Checked bag only. Aerosols must be in containers of 17 oz or less, capped at 68 oz total per passenger.
The simplest option for carry-on-only travel is a solid stick. No size limit, no liquids bag, no screening delay.
Toothpaste, by contrast, is always a liquid to TSA regardless of container type. It always goes in the 3.4 oz liquids bag for carry-on.
